Young Enterprise
This year has proved very successful for Young Enterprise at Ryde High School with two teams of young entrepreneurs selling shares, allocating job roles, developing a product and bringing it to market. Both have survived a full year’s trading, no mean feat when you have to balance studies and other commitments.
Ryde High School awarded TLA School status
Ryde High School is the first Island school to be awarded Teacher Learning Academy (TLA) School status. The TLA offers schools a new approach to continuing professional development that is grounded in everyday practice. It provides teachers with opportunities to try out new teaching approaches and to reflect on ways to improve classroom experience. They are enabled to share best practice with other teachers, thus making a contribution to whole school improvement whilst gaining professional recognition for their work.

International Healthy Living Project
Ryde High School has been participating in a Comenius Project about healthy living for two years and was looking forward to the final project meeting due to be held at the school from 19 to 23 April. Then the news came on 15 April that all European flights were grounded, due to the cloud of volcanic ash covering the continent and it looked as if the meeting could not take place. International Coordinator, Mrs Suttmann was disappointed that the school would not have an opportunity to show their partners the work they had been doing over the past two years. However, she had not reckoned with the motivation and determination of the partner schools in Spain, Poland, Latvia and Norway to come to the UK.
