Ryde High School offers a broad and balanced curriculum that is designed to motivate and challenge all our students. Our curriculum provision was graded as ‘good’ by Ofsted in January 2010.
The school’s four curriculum aims are, as follows:
1. To have a personalised and flexible curriculum that inspires and challenges all students
2. To have ‘Routes to Success’ (Learning Pathways) to enable our students to achieve their full potential
3. To develop responsible citizens who make a positive contribution to society
4. To raise standards and achievement
We understand that students have different abilities, aptitudes, learning styles and aspirations and, because of this, we offer a wide range of opportunities through which their individual talents and interests can be developed. Students are grouped in a way that they learn best, with setting by ability in some subjects, for example, in English and Mathematics.

There has been positive feedback from stakeholders, most notably students, parents and Ofsted, to support this. In a curriculum survey at the start of this academic year 91% of year 10 students stated that they enjoyed learning at the school. 95% of parents believe that there is a good range of subjects on offer (Options Evening Questionnaire 2009). In November 2008 Ofsted stated that the school’s new broad and balanced curriculum is a feature of effective practice, ‘The new curriculum recently introduced into years 9 and 10 is designed to meet the needs of the individual student. It is broad, balanced and flexible and offers year 10 students a range of GCSE, vocational and college linked courses. Opportunities to develop students’ understanding of economic well-being are embedded throughout the curriculum.
